Frequently Asked Questions

How long has the BCTA been around?

The Brisbane Churches Touch Association was established way back in 1987 and has been running continually ever since.

When do your seasons run?

We operate two senior (ie adult) seasons per year: Summer (October to March) and Winter (April to September). We break for approximately four weeks between seasons and also over the Christmas / New Year period. We also run a short junior competition each October / November.

What night do you play?

The senior competition currently plays only on Tuesday nights, with the juniors on Saturday mornings.

Where do you play?

Our Tennyson venue has four excellent floodlit fields, a large car park and amenities blocks, making it one of the best touch-playing facilities in Brisbane. Our juniors play at the Christian Outreach College at Wecker Road, Mansfield.

Do you run men’s or women’s competitions?

We have in the past, but currently only run mixed divisions for seniors. We run four junior divisions: boys and girls, 10-years and 12-years.

Do you play 6 or 7 a side?

All adult games are 7 a side (4 males and 3 females). Junior 12-years are 7 a side while the 10-years play 5 a side on a smaller field.

We have never played touch before- is this the comp for us?

Yes. The BCTA runs four adult mixed grades (A to D) and so caters for all standards of play from beginners to competitive. We operate under a "play hard, play fair, play clean" sporting philosophy.

Do I have to be a Christian to play?

No. The BCTA is an open organisation so non-Christians are most welcome. All players are expected to abide by our Code of Conduct.

Do I have to be part of a church group to play?

No. Teams may be social groups, or represent other institutions such as schools or hospitals. Junior teams must represent a school.

What's the mimimum age to play?

Adult players must be at least 15 years of age.  Junior players must meet the age requirements of their division.

Are you affiliated with other touch organisations?

No, we remain proudly independent.

Are players insured?

Yes, all registered players are insured.

What happens to your profits?

As we are a not-for-profit organisation, any surplus is retained by the Association for the benefit of our members.

Are you incorporated?

Yes. The BCTA has been incorporated in the state of Queensland since 1990, incorporation # IA7877.

Do you have an ABN?

Yes. We are a registered business (though GST exempt Smile ), ABN 91 884 131 521.
